Bzzzzzzz

Another cooperative little bumblebee—or just
too high on nectar to pay any attention to the
large presence looming over him.

Rome at Night II

I love wandering around this city in the wee hours.
The street lamps cast a soft golden glow—
and sometimes a pretty cool shadow too.

photo hunt—together

Here are NYC's famous Rockettes—who are
definitely "together"—right down to the
height of their  trademark kicks!

Skywatch Friday

Spent a day in Rome a few years ago with my big bro, David.
Over the course of about 9 hours, we experienced bright sun,
torrential rain, even some good-sized hail! This was the
view over Roma as our train pulled out of the city.

Thursday Challenge — "construction"

Here's Brooklyn's controversial construction project:
Atlantic Yards, a huge mixed-use residential and commercial
development.  This is the skeleton of what will become the new home
of the Nets basketball team. Apparently the latest problem
for nearby residents is rats—and to think I considered
buying in a beautiful old brownstone right near here.

abc wednesday —B is for "bubble"

All the children crossing the Pont des Arts in Paris
were drawn like little magnets to these
huge bubbles.  I love the look of sheer
wonder on those kids in the background.

The woman in the window

Took this from a train traveling through a far-flung
neighborhood in Brooklyn.  It was early in the
morning and already in the 90s—and this woman's
apartment was clearly not equipped with air-conditioning.
Maybe she went to a nice cool movie theater later.

Mellow, Yellow, and Macro

Black-eyed Susans are blooming all over town
right now.  I saw these up on the High Line.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Shadows above, shadows below, shadows all
around—I think I've hit the jackpot here!

Walk in the Street

Found this painter and his subjects in Washington
Square Park—from the look on that woman's face, I'm
thinking these folks have been posing here for a while!

Skywatch Friday

Another one captured with my iPhone.  I just
loved the drama of this sky punctuated
by the beautiful Woolworth Building.

Thursday Challenge — "yellow"

I think there's enough yellow here to
qualify.  What caught my eye in this window
display on the Ile St. Louis in Paris, though,
were the Eiffel Tower graters.  Would
have made a nice addition to my ET collection,
but the store was closed.  Quel dommage.

abc wednesday —A is for "amuse-bouche"

This was the chef's "get ready, here it comes" for a
fabulous 3-star meal at Le Grand Véfour, in Paris.

That's My World

I saw this guy (and his two friends) last year in Union Square and
have been hoping to find them again ever since.  Finally encountered
them near Bethesda Fountain, in Central Park. At the end of

their very engaging tumbling act, after jumping over the adorable
and cooperative small child he then jumps over four adults at once!

Mellow Yellow Monday

Yeah, they're kinda gorgeous—and I have at
least one friend who can dance all night in hers.
But, seriously,  I doubt I could walk a city
block in these red-soled beauties. How about you?

Here's the whole window of Christian's
fab boutique on Madison Ave.  One of
these days (when I'm dressed like I could
ever afford them),  I'm gonna go in and
try on a pair or two.  I'll report back.

Shadow Shot Sunday

It's been hot here this past week, with the
temp hovering near 100°F (38°C) some days.
I was so tempted to join this kid!

Walk in the Street

This reminds me that I really need to wash
my windows.  Fortunately, I can do it myself
the old-fashioned way—no hydraulics required
(like here, at the Richard Meier building next door).

Thanks to my daughter Lila for letting
me borrow this gorgeous Fire Island sunset.

thursday Challenge–"vehicles"

They don't make 'em like they used to, do they?
This is my dad circa 1930 with his first

car—a Model T, I think (but not sure).

abc wednesday —Z is for . . .

. . . zombie hunter??  Well, I guess we all need
a hobby.  Or maybe it's a career—if so, I'm glad
I didn't spot this car in my neighborhood!

What!?

I was walking through Central Park recently and
decided to pass through Strawberry Fields—but
when I got there, expecting to find the usual large
but peaceful crowd, this is what I found instead.
And I never was able to discover what had happened.
I do know one thing for sure:  John would not be pleased.

Come In!

I'm usually a pretty symmetrical kind of girl, but I love this
doorway—another thing I found at the Met last week.

Shadow Shot Sunday

Saw this a couple of weeks ago at the Met (ropolitan Museum of Art)
and had to save it for this Shadow Shot Sunday (which also
happens to be my daughter Lila's birthday).

She looks right at home chillin' on the
quai de la Tournelle, n'est-ce pas?

Walk in the Street

This guy was entertaining the kids who
came with their parents to shop at my
local greenmarket in Brooklyn. The very next

day, I passed by the Alice in Wonderland statue
in Central Park—and there he was again.

Skywatch Friday

Macy's put on quite a show on the 4th—but before it got
dark and the fireworks began, Mother Nature
put on a little show of her own!

Thursday Challenge–"roads"

Coming in to LAX (and as usual I feel compelled
to apologize for this plane's dirty windows).
But this is about roads, as in freeways, as in once
again, actually glad I don't drive—this is just way too much!

abc wednesday —Y is for "yawn"

Looks fierce, doesn't he?  Well, don't be fooled.  My cousin's
(former) barn kitty, Frank, is a total pussycat (literally).

That's My World

And wasn't my world spectacular last night?
Had to have some fireworks for the 4th, so I
braved the crowds and went to watch the
skies light up over the Hudson River.

(Not easy, but totally worth it!)
[To see more of the world, go here.]

Happy 4th!

Well, you know what's inscribed on that tablet!
So Lady Liberty seems fitting for today's post
(besides, I have no fireworks to show you).

Shadow Shot Sunday

Stepping out in front of the Louvre:  my daughters,
Lila and Katie, and in between their good pal
(soon to defend her dissertation and become Dr.!) Dena.
When we were there last March, these girls owned the town!
(Or at least the part of it that wasn't mine.)   :~}

The Great White Way

I wonder how many people have gotten
a stiff neck visiting this city.  Times Square is
not my favorite part of town, but I guess it's
a must if you're here to see the sights.

Skywatch Friday

The lower Manhattan skyline is pretty impressive
at any time of day—but as night fell one evening
recently, it couldn't compete with this cerulean sky.
